Health officer arrested for sexual molestation of two under-aged girls


A Health Officer has been arrested from Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Nadalla island for alleged sexual molestation of two under-aged girls.
Police said that a 50-year-old man was arrested around 1700 hours yesterday in connection to the crime, and that a court extended his detention period by 15 days. 
The case was reported to police on March 17 and yesterday around 1430 hours, police arrived in the island and took him into custody. However, upon his deteriorating health, he was transferred to the Regional Hospital in Thinadhoo island for treatment. 
The suspect is married to a resident in Nadalla.

Ibbe marries woman he is accused of sexually abusing as a minor


Ibrahim 'Hoara Ibbe' Rasheed, former under-secretary of the President's Office under ousted president Mohamed Nasheed, has married the woman he stands accused of sexual abuse as a minor.

Ibbe's friends have confirmed the marriage to CNM and Ibbe's lawyers have told the court that she was not a minor and that she was 18 years of age according to the Islamic Hijri calendar. Maldives' age of majority is 18.

Ibbe was arrested on 6 December 2012 on the charges of sexual molestation of a minor but he had claimed that he was engaged to her when he was arrested. His case was sent to court in February.

Ibbe was charged under a law that deals specifically with child sexual abuse. If found guilty, he faces a jail sentence of 10 to 14 years.
