35 convicts have been pardoned by the President

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has pardoned 35 convicts who were performing their sentences for various crimes.

The Presidents Office told that convicts carrying out sentences for murder, terrorism, sexual abuse of minors, rape, and homosexual conduct were not involved among pardoned.

Also the President’s Office stated that, in a statement released today that the pardon was issued under the Law on Clemency and Alleviation of Penalties. Convicts pardoned today were carrying out prison sentences, exile sentences, and house arrest sentences.

And also stated that 35 convicts were pardoned with conditions.
