Police have arrested two men on suspicion of involvement in alleged homosexual activity in a room in a house in Male'. The arrested persons are 18 year old Mueenu Dheen of Bangaldesh and 37 year old Iqbal Mohamed Hussein of Shaviani Maroshi Bageechaage.
The men were arrested on the 25th of March around 12:15 in the night following reports of such acts in a house in Maafanu. The men were apprehended in a special operation by teams from the Serious and Organized Crime Unit and Special Operation and Security Department of the Maldives Police Service.
Briefing the media, Acting Head of Inspector of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed said that when police entered the room occupied by the two men forcibly discernable evidences were seen in the room of such homosexual acts by the two men.
Further, inspection of the room also revealed phonographic CDs and a picture of one of the children involved in the paedophilic cases being investigated by the police at present.
Inspector of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed said that Iqbal Mohamed Hussein (37 years) of Shaviani Maroshi Bageechaage arrested in the case already carried a previous record for homosexual activity.
The case is being further investigated by the Serious and Organized Crime Unit of the Maldives Police Service.
