Actor Dhaas arrested along with crossdressing male friend

MALE, Oct 31 (HNS) - Local actor Ibrahim Giyas (Dhaas) was arrested Wednesday along with a crossdressing male friend, police said.

Dhaas and Mohamed Haneef, who likes to dress as a woman, was arrested around midnight Wednesday.

"Yes, they both are in our custody. They were found together in a room," Assistant Commissioner of Police, Major Ibrahim Latheef told Haveeru Thursday without giving details.

Dhaas is an emerging actor who has appeared in a string of music videos; he has also appeared in some local films.

Haneef, who is nicknamed "Honey" by friends, is a local tailor famous for sewing women's clothes.
There were rumors even before that Dhaas and Haneef enjoy some kind of a "relationship."

The two men's arrest comes just a month after local actor Ali Seezan and local actress Niuma Mohamed were convicted for an extramarital sexual affair. They were apprehended while together alone in a locked, darkened room.

Niuma and Seezan were subsequently convicted and publicly flogged. Niuma was also sentenced to eight months house arrest while Seezan was sentenced to eight months banishment. Banishment involves confining the convicted to any inhabited island for the period of his/her sentence.
